Later this year, an Irish American actress will play a starring role in a TV drama series about an Irish American crime fighter nabbing a notorious killer.

Jane Lynch is slated to play U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno in the forthcoming Discovery Channel series Manifesto. The program explores Ted Kaczynski’s deadly killing spree, which spanned years and targeted symbols of technology and modern society. The Unabomber (as Kaczynski was known) even released a manifesto of his thoughts that was widely discussed and debated. Central to revealing the identity of the Unabomber was Philadelphia native and FBI agent Jim Fitzgerald. He approached the gathering of intelligence on the case in a radical new way, leading to Kaczynski’s capture in April of 1996. Fitzgerald, who is now retired from the FBI, will serve as a consulting producer on Manifesto. ♦
