Irish America magazine is pleased to announce Shaun Kelly, Chief Operating Officer for KPMG’s Americas region, as the 18th annual keynote speaker at the 2015 Irish America Wall Street 50 Awards dinner. The dinner, which has come to be the premier networking event for Irish and Irish-American leaders of the financial community, will be held October 1st at the Metropolitan Club in Manhattan.

As COO Americas, a position he has held since 2010, Kelly works with the leaders of the KPMG International member firms in the region to align their respective strategies, operating structures, and business plans.

A west Belfast native, Kelly joined KPMG International’s Irish member firm in Dublin in 1980 and transferred to the San Francisco office in 1984. He was admitted to the U.S. partnership in 1999. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce, first class honors from University College, Dublin, and is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, and a CPA. He and his wife, Mary, who is from Donegal, live in New York. They have four children.

Through his various leadership roles and his extensive work serving a broad range of significant U.S. companies, which span a number of industries, Kelly has keen insights regarding marketplace trends and the business issues companies face in today’s environment.

“Historically, a rich source for innovation has been the immigrants who have come to America,” Kelly told Irish America. “Innovators and entrepreneurs can come from anywhere, be it Asia, the Americas, or Europe, including Ireland. The diversity of experience and outlook that immigrants bring to any country allow them to see new solutions for old problems – and that ever-fresh perspective is at the heart of a growing, strong economy.”

Kelly has extensive international merger and acquisition and corporate restructuring experience. He has helped structure transactions and has provided due diligence assistance to leading multinational companies. And he knows it’s some of his Irish characteristics of lightheartedness that has helped him succeed.

“I’ve come to realize that our sense of humor and the ability to keep things in perspective are great strengths that have helped me with all the changes in business, particularly over these past few years,” said Kelly who will be the feature as the cover story of the October/November issue of Irish America.

In addition to his role as COO Americas, Kelly is co-chair of KPMG’s Disabilities Network, and a member of KPMG’s Diversity Advisory Board.

He also chairs the North American Advisory Board of the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business, sits on the boards of directors of the American Ireland Fund, and the Irish Arts Center in New York, and is the treasurer and member of the executive committee of Enactus, a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world.

The October / November 2015 issue of Irish America will feature Kelly as its cover story.

As Keynote Speaker, Kelly joins a distinguished group. In past years Irish America has welcomed such distinguished keynote speakers as Kathleen Lynch, COO of UBS Group Americas and Wealth Management Americas; Jim O’Donnell, Citi’s Head of Investor Sales and Relationship Management; Bob McCann, CEO of UBS Group Americas and Wealth Management; and Brian Moynihan, President and CEO of Bank of America.
