To mark the anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s death, three new books with fabulous photography have been released.

One of Ourselves: John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Ireland, by James Robert Carroll, explores the details of the late president’s three and a half day trip to Ireland in late June 1963. The author discusses Kennedy’s famous “homecoming” including the places he visited, the people he met and the events that crowded his schedule.

Remembering Jack: Intimate and Unseen Photographs of the Kennedys by Jacques Lowe features a foreword by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and an afterword by Tom Wolfe. The book had a rough time coming to print. All of Lowe’s negatives were in a vault in the World Trade Center and were destroyed on September 11, but after detailed research, the photographs in the book were reconstructed through existing prints and contact sheets. Half of the pictures have never been published before.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy: A Life in Pictures, published by Phaidon, is exquisitely designed and features many color photographs. Many of the pictures are previously unpublished and follow Kennedy’s life from his childhood to student days, traveling though Europe at age 20, his career in politics and intimate family pictures. Packed with moving quotes as well as his report cards, speeches and diary, the book captures the extensive but brief arc of his extraordinary life. ♦
