Hibernia: The eircom
Dublin Theatre Festival

Dracula.

By Irish America Staff
October / November 2000

For the first two weeks in October, Dublin will once again host a smorgasbord of exciting theater from throughout the Fair City. The eircom Dublin Theatre Festival will offer both epic and intimate productions and merge theater, film, and music.

Kicking off the festival will be Dracula, the Music and Film, a one-of-a-kind production that will transform the National Concert Hall into a movie house and music hall in one. This event will offer a rare opportunity to hear composer Philip Glass perform an original composition live, accompanied by the acclaimed Kronos string quartet, for Tod Browning’s 1931 film Dracula.

Other productions include the Gate Theatre’s premier of Dublin Carol by leading Irish playwright Conor McPherson, the Royal National Theatre’s production of Hamlet, and Barabbas…the company’s (yup, that’s their name) production of God’s Gift, a version of Heinrich von Kleist’s Amphitryon by Irish writer John Banville at the O’Reilly Theatre.

The festival will also feature works from Argentina, Italy, France, Australia, and Canada.
